ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE)
The ABE program provides basic skills instruction and critical thinking skills in language arts and math to students who score below the high school level.
ACADEMIC SKILLS BUILDING (ASB)
Academic Skills Building (ASB) is a non-credit adult
education program designed for students at NRS
ABE Levels 5–6. The program helps students
strengthen literacy and math skills.
GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED®)
The GED program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Official GED® Tests, be awarded a State of Florida High School Diploma, and be better prepared for postsecondary education.
ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)
The Adult ESOL program assists immigrants and other individuals who are English language learners in improving their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and comprehension skills in English.
INTEGRATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING (IET)
Integrated Education and Training (IET) is a proven
approach that helps adults strengthen essential
academic skills while gaining workforce training.

AGE stands for Adult General Education. It includes English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), ACADEMIC SKILLS BUILDING (ASB), INTEGRATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING (IET), and General Educational Development (GED).
We have 2 semesters: Fall Semester (July – December) and Spring Semester (January – June)
No, however, agencies such as Career Source, and Vocational Rehabilitation may assist with payment. We cannot guarantee their help. If you are homeless, you may qualify for a waiver with appropriate documentation.

No refund will be given after the 3rd class meeting after initial enrollment for the term.
The results of the TABE test determine if you are placed in ABE or GED classes. If your scores fall below high school level (NRS Levels 1 – 4), you will be scheduled in ABE. These classes include ABE Language Arts and ABE Math. They strengthen your foundational skills and prepare you for GED coursework. If your scores are high school level (NRS Levels 5 and 6), you will be placed in GED classes: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.
Reading and Math
No, the placement tests are not pass/fail. They help us to determine your current level and customize a learning plan to meet your needs.
Yes, all students must take a placement test. ESOL students will take the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS); GED students will take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
Reading and Listening
No, test results cannot be given over the phone.
Yes, we have online classes for ESOL, ABE, and GED. You must have scored a level 3 or higher on the reading section of the TABE to qualify for online ABE classes.
You must be at least 16 years old.
Yes, students under the age of 18 must provide official documentation of school withdrawal.
You must be at least 16 years old and qualify for a waiver in order to take the General Educational Development (GED) tests.
We do not offer GED classes in Spanish; however, the GED test is offered in Spanish. Go to GED.com for more information.
The length of the program depends on your current academic level and how much time and effort you can commit to accomplishing your goal.
