Federal verification guidelines require that applicants be selected for verification by the Central Processing System (CPS) and, in certain instances, by the school. At Marion Technical College, federal verification is performed on all applicants selected by the CPS and any application that the college has reason to believe needs to be corrected or has conflicting documentation, and when a “Comment Code” or “C” Code appears on the Students SAR/ ISIR. These codes flag specific issues on a student’s application. Each code corresponds to a specific comment text for the award year. A select group of these codes requires resolution before any Title IV aid can be awarded.
The FSEOG is a federal grant. Funds are very limited for this award. The grant provides additional money to a student if financial need is demonstrated. This grant depends not only on financial need but on other aid sources and the availability of funds allocated to the school.
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state program that works with people who have physical or mental disabilities to prepare them to gain or retain employment. It is an individualized employment program. Participants may receive diagnosis, an individualized rehabilitation program, counseling and guidance, training, job placement, and services to support job retention. Financial aid funding at Marion Technical College (MTC) includes state and federal funds, various private scholarships, scholarships through MTC and more. Financial aid is calculated by determining the Cost of Attendance (COA) for a specific period of time or academic year and determining the unmet need of a student. Marion Technical College will use a 900 hour/26 week academic year for most programs.
A complete list of academic year information by program is available in the Financial Aid Office. The Federal Pell Grant payment and disbursement schedules provided by the U.S. Department of Education are used to determine annual award amounts. The COA, Student Aid Index (SAI) and enrollment status of the student are used in these calculations. Marion Technical College uses a Third Party Servicer, FAME, to assist with the awarding process. A complete policies and procedures manual is available for viewing in the Financial Aid Office.
