Our History

From our humble beginnings to our modern day campus, Marion Technical College has been serving our community for over 40 years. Scroll through the timeline and see how MTC has grown into the modern, technical college it is today.

The Early Years

1974

Mr. Samuel Lauff, Jr. and the Marion County School Board establish the Adult and Community Education Center in the Robert’s Building.

1994

Community Education Center moves into the newly renovated, former Manhattan Shirt Factory building.

1995

Community Education Center becomes the Adult & Community Education Center.

1999

Samuel Lauff, Jr. dedicates the event hall “Brewster Hall” to one of the founding Community Education employees Ms. Jane Brewster.

Transitioning Into Technical Education

2005


Adult and Community Education Center changes it’s name to Community Adult and Technical Education (CTAE), and begins to offer technical education programs.

October 2015

Deborah Jenkins retires as Director of CTAE.

November 2015

Dan Davis become Interim Director of CTAE.

 MTC Transforms Into a College

June 2016

The Marion County School Board approves the name change to Marion Technical College. Making MTC the 38th of the 48 Florida school districts to change from adult education center to technical college.

2016


Marion Technical College gets a new logo and a new look.

2017

Marion Technical College expands to include the new MTC – Extension Campus, located at the MTI campus.
