About this course
DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for out of state Firefighters who are prepared to challenge the Florida Equivalency Exam.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This three-day (24 hour) course is designed for out of state firefighters who are preparing to take the Florida Equivalency State Test.
NOTE: THIS COURSE DOES NOT REVIEW IFSTA 6TH EDITION IN PREPARATION FOR THE WRITTEN TEST AT PEARSON VUE.
PREREQUISITES: Complete medical examination on State Form DFS-K4-1022. Must be dated within 1 year of your test date.
CLASS TIMES: 0800 -1700
DORMITORY INFO: A limited number of dormitory rooms are available at the Fire College. Call (352) 369-2879 for information on availability and cost of the rooms, you can also reserve your dorm & pay online at www.floridastatefirecollege.org .
All students must be present the first day of class for orientation. You are asked to report to
The Florida State Fire College directly to classroom 117 on the first morning of the course. Orientation begins promptly at 0800 hours.
You must also bring with you the following items when participating in this course:
- A full set of bunker or turnout gear – (pants, coat, helmet, gloves, boots and )

NOTE: All protective clothing must be NFPA approved.
- The Florida State Fire College will provide the self-contained breathing apparatus as needed.
- A short (8-12 feet) piece of rope – preferably braided No larger than 1/2" diameter.
DRESS CODE: No shorts, tank tops or sandals please. We recommend comfortable clothing such as jeans, tee shirts etc. Sweat pants and shirts are acceptable for the winter months.
CAFETERIA: There is a cafeteria on campus. Your lunches throughout the week will be provided for you at no additional cost. Breakfast and dinner are also available at your own expense.
