Firefighting II/ Emergency Medical Technician (Combined)

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

The new Fire Fighter/Emergency Medical Technician (Combined) program provides the training required for students to become certified fire fighters as well as licensed Emergency Medical Technicians. It is not intended for those who are currently certified/licensed as either fire fighters or EMTs. Students wishing to add an additional certification to an existing credential must enroll in either the Fire Fighter I/II program or the Emergency Medical Technician program.

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Law, Public Safety and Security and Health Science career clusters; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK:

Graduates of FSFC/MTC program enjoy the highest employment rate in the state of Florida. Graduates have ample opportunities to work in fire fighting service as volunteers or professional fire fighters.

SALARY RANGE:

Salary will vary as to where graduates seek employment. In the state of Florida, fire fighters earn $31,363 to $62,319 per year.*

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma—standard or GED is recommended
  • Complete MTC Application and pay $20 (check or money order) non-refundable processing fee
  • Copy of SAT, ACT, CPT, or PERT test scores, or copy of Associates of Arts (AA) degree or higher
  • Copy of any training certificates (Paramedic or EMT) and current CPAT

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION:

Upon completion of required OCPs (Occupational Completion Point) for this state identified job preparatory program, meeting state basic skills requirements, and passing of state examination, students earn a Certificate of Completion in Fire Fighting/ Emergency Medical Technician (Combined).

CPAT:

(COMBINED FF/EMT, FIRE FIGHTER I/II, AND FIRE FIGHTER II PROGRAMS ONLY)

All applicants must have a current CPAT (Candidate Physical Agility Test) administered at the Florida State Fire College consisting of fire fighting scenarios. Prospective students must complete the test in less than 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Please go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com to register and pay. No other form or type of CPAT will be accepted.

  • CPAT test fee—$125 (includes 2 CPAT orientations)
  • CPAT practice test—$38

After passing the CPAT, the candidate must notify MTC at (352) 671-4132 to be considered for the next available Fire Fighter I/II class. You will be notified upon acceptance, and provided information to complete registration into the program.
