MARION TECHNICAL COLLEGE | ADMISSIONS POLICY
Marion Technical College (MTC) is a public educational institution dedicated to providing educational opportunities for those who can benefit from instruction. Admission to Marion Technical College Career Certification Programs is open to anyone who is at least 16 year of age and is no longer enrolled in a K-12 institution.
There is a standard MTC Online Application that is required for admissions to all programs. Because of certain licensing or other program requirements, some programs have additional admission requirements. All program specific information, including prerequisites, if any, are included in the program brochures available by visiting the page of the program of your choice. STEP 1 | INFORMATION SESSION
The first step to a better future is to submit completed Marion Technical College Online Application. This includes:
- Filling out the MTC standard online application
- Residency affidavit
- MYCAREERSHINES career assessment results
- Supplemental program packet (if required)
- Meet with Admissions Advisor for application review
You will also need to provide additional documentation before your application can be processed. It is recommended you have the following documentation with you when you meet with an admissions advisor:
- Driver’s license
- Social security card
- TWO proofs of residency (visit our RESIDENCY PAGE for more information about acceptable proofs of residency. If bringing copies: original documents may be requested for verification).
- Copy of high school or GED diploma
- Official high school or GED transcripts
STEP 3 | CAREER ASSESSMENT
Marion Technical College requires all applicants interested in a Career Certification Program to complete the MYCAREERSHINES™ career assessment as part of the application process.

STEP 4 | HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS
All applicants, as required by the specific program are to provide an official copy of either their high school transcripts, or GED transcripts along with the application packet. MTC only accepts sealed (unopened) official transcripts.
STEP 5 | FINANCIAL AID
All applicants must fill out your FAFSA as a part of the application process.
You can fill out your FAFSA online at WWW.FAFSA.ED.GOV (MTC code-031039).
- If you are enrolling in a program that begins between January, 2018 and June, 2018 you must complete the 2017-2018 FAFSA.
- If you are enrolling in a program that begins after July 2018, you must complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA.
Not completing the correct FAFSA for your program will cause a processing delay. If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
STEP 6 | BASIC SKILLS REQUIREMENT
Career Certification Programs greater than 450 clock hours have specific academic skill exit (graduation) requirements in reading, math, and language set by the Florida Department Of Education. Please review the following information:
By the sixth week of program enrollment, applicants must provide results of one of the following assessments taken within the past two years. (TABE, PERT, SAT, OR ACT)
Certain basic skills testing exemptions exist for applicants who can document they have met the requirements. For exemption information, contact the Student Services Department.
Applicants needing to complete the TABE TEST are encouraged to do so as early as possible. Scoring below the minimum state exit requirement for the specific program will not prohibit acceptance, but assist staff in developing the best academic/remediation plan for each applicant to be successful in his/her training.
Please visit student services at the Marion Technical College campus to schedule your TABE test appointment. There is a $10.00 fee (for applicants and students) that is required prior to scheduling. Study material for the TABE test can be found at:
STEP 7 | SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION
Online applications must be reviewed by an admissions advisor and additional forms and documents, including supplemental packet if applicable, must be submitted in person at Student Services to one of our Admissions Advisors.

Once you bring your completed additional forms and documentation, and supplemental packet to Student Services, and have met with an admissions advisor, you will pay the non-refundable application fee of $20.00. Cash, check or credit/debit card is acceptable.
