Congratulations to 2014-2015 CTAE’s Teacher of the Year, Jan Roberts. She is an instructor for the Allied Health Department, where Ms. Roberts teaches both Medical Assisting and Medical Coder/Biller programs. In 1997, she began teaching at CTAE as an evening, part-time Medical Coder/Biller program instructor. In 2011, Ms. Roberts was hired full-time as a Medical Assisting Instructor, while continuing to teach at night for the Medical Coder/Biller program. When asked about her motivation to become an instructor, Ms. Roberts stated, ““I look at teaching as a heritage of knowledge. I enjoy being able to pass down the knowledge and skills of a profession to my students.” This is the third consecutive year that the person voted as CTAE’s Teacher of the Year is a Medical Assisting Program instructor.
Ms. Roberts will now represent CTAE at the annual Golden Apple Gala and possibly become Marion County Public School’s Teacher of the Year. Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Program, developed in 1991, honors and rewards excellence in teaching. Each school selects their teacher of the year, who then participates in the selection process. Each year five outstanding teachers are named Golden Apple Teachers and become members of the Golden Apple Academy, a growing association of exceptional educators. Of the Golden Apples, one is named as Marion County’s Teacher of the Year at the Golden Apple Gala. Again, congratulations to Ms. Roberts. We are very proud to have her represent CTAE at the Golden Apple Gala! Good luck and we wish her the best at this year’s Gala.
